Nausea is an unpleasant sensation of impending vomiting. People may also experience dizziness, vague abdominal discomfort, and unwillingness to eat.
Vomiting is a violent contraction of the stomach, pushing its contents down the esophagus and out of the mouth. Vomiting empties the stomach and often makes people who feel nauseous feel significantly better, at least for a while. Vomiting causes significant discomfort and can be very severe.
Vomiting is not the same as regurgitation (belching), which is regurgitation of stomach contents and is not accompanied by violent abdominal muscle contractions or nausea. For example, people with achalasia or Zenker's diverticulum can regurgitate undigested food without nausea.
Vomit, material expelled during vomiting, usually contains food recently eaten. Sometimes they contain pieces of food. When there is blood in the vomit, the vo Nausea and vomiting. mit is usually red (bloody vomit), but if the blood is partially digested, the vomit looks like coffee grounds. In the presence of bile, the vomit is bitter and yellow-green.
In addition to feeling uncomfortable, vomiting can cause complications:
inhalation of vomit (aspiration);
rupture of the esophagus (Mallory-Weiss rupture);
dehydration and abnormal electrolyte levels;
malnutrition and weight loss.
Appendicitis, intestinal wall perforation, gallbladder inflammation, pancreatitis
Signs: Severe abdominal pain. The abdomen is painful on palpation.
Bowel obstruction
Signs: Lack of bowel movements and flatulence. Arising and disappearing cramping pain in the abdomen. Bloated belly. Usually in people with a hernia or undergoing abdominal surgery.
Signs: Vomiting and diarrhea. No pain or minimal abdominal pain (except in cases of vomiting). In rare cases, fever or blood in the stool. Abdominal examination results are normal.
